Willet was a leader of Sons of Liberty in New York; he was appointed mayor in 1807.
This portrait commemorates the treaty that Colonel Willet negotiated with a federation of Creeks, Cherokees, Chickasaws, and Choctaws led by Creek leader Alexander McGillivray. Note the three Creeks in the far background.
